‘Understanding eating behaviours’ with Jacinta Sherlock
Long term, sustainable change: Helping people understand their eating behaviour through the principles of the non-diet approach and intuitive eating
Understanding eating behaviours is critical for ensuring client results. Increasing rates of weight regain precipitated by weight loss attempts through dieting and energy restriction and conventional thinking around health and weight loss dieting (negative energy balance = energy in < energy out) is resulting in people losing weight in the short term and in most cases regaining weight, plus a bit more.
The non-diet approach and intuitive eating, offers an evidenced based framework supporting clients to understand drivers of non-hungry eating and improve physiological parameters associated with well-being, without the restrictions and deprivations of weight loss dieting.
The principles of the non-diet approach and intuitive eating are discussed and avenues for professionals to apply these principles with clients are provided
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding of wellbeing independent of weight
- Understanding of the basic principles of the non – diet approach
- Understanding of the basic principles of intuitive eating
